CLAYTON Ince today outlined his confidence that Walsall will react to last Saturday's defeat to Mansfield by setting out their stall to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season.
A 2-1 defeat to the Stags was only the third time in 28 league games this term that the Saddlers have ended a fixture empty-handed.
It was a rare disappointing afternoon for the 985-strong Walsall travelling support at Field Mill. But the team's position at the top of League Two remains very strong.
And a home game against struggling Boston United next Saturday provides an excellent chance to launch another strong run.
"We know how to react to a defeat," Ince said. "We have been in this position before this season and bounced back well each time.
"We just have to focus on the points we have on the board because we are still top of the table and the other teams have to catch us. Now we must try not to lose any more games.
"At some stage of the season there is bound to be a lapse in concentration. But we don't blame anybody - we take it as a team together.
"We just have to make sure we start off against Boston next week the way we started the season and then set off on another run."
That means the performance levels against the Pilgrims must be cranked back up from those against Mansfield.
Walsall were a shadow of the unit which has swept most before them this term. And the difficult conditions - muddy pitch and strong wind - were no mitigation, insists Ince.
"At this time of the season you have to expect difficult conditions," the goalkeeper said. "But we can't think about the conditions. We just have to put our heads down and play."
