While Carlos Edwards will now have to sit on the side recovering from his shoulder injury for the next few weeks, his compatriot Kenwyne Jones will be banking on good form to bang in some goals and try and push Southampton up the Championship table and possibly squeeze a spot in the playoffs for promotion.

Jones played for 76 minutes in Southampton’s 3-1 loss to Preston North End on Monday and his team remains on 59 points in seventh spot. But in previous weeks, Edwards says the two have been throwing some banter at each other as both their teams seek promotion to the top flight of Premiership football. Southampton faces Sunderland on April 9 and Edwards can only keep all fingers crossed that he recovers in time.

“Myself and Kenwyne are always on the phone talking, giving each other a bit of banter,” Edwards laughed. “We are real partners but when we meet on the pitch in a few weeks it will be hard football and a fight for three points. We have our roles here and we have our part to play in Trinidad football . We just want to put the past behind us and move on with the football,” Edwards said a few days ago.
