Trinidad and Tobago World Cup forward and North East Stars player Anthony Wolfe has signed a three year deal with Atlanta Silverbacks of the United Soccer Leagues(USL).

The 26 year old forward is expected to leave Trinidad on Tuesday to pick up duties with his new club.

Wolfe confirmed the move speaking with ‘ttproleague.com’, “Silverbacks and I have agreed on a very flexible deal. I have already signed a three year contract with the club. I am just waiting to sort out my paperwork with immigration before I leave next week.”

Wolfe had previously spent one week with the club during the Pro League pre-season and the Atlanta Silverbacks were very impressed with the T&T World Cup player.

But he returned to Trinidad and started off the 2007 season with his former club North East Stars after San Juan Jabloteh refused to renew his contract.

Wolfe went on to give details saying, “They(Atlanta Silverbacks) have been really reasonable with me. We have agreed that if a better opportunity comes along for me with a much better club or League, I would have to freedom to move and this is great. So I am very comfortable with the contract,” he said.

The North East Stars player also believes his move is a step to better opportunities adding, “It’s an opportunity for clubs in the US to see me and maybe I’ll earn a draft to the MLS(Major League Soccer) or even a contract in Europe.”

Wolfe ended last season in the Pro League as joint top goal scorer for the 2007 season with 14 goals to his name as a San Juan Jabloteh player.

Owner/Manager of the Sangre Grande based North East Stars, Darryl Mahabir is confident that Anthony Wolfe would continue to represent his club during the USL break later on this year.

“The USL League ends in October and Wolfe would be joining us during his beak,” said Mahabir confidently.

“I am happy for Anton. I think he will do great. The bosses at his new club said that they were really impressed with Anton’s energy level.”

Mahabir said that he doesn’t see the loss of Anthony Wolfe as a major one. He believes he has players of high quality who can step up and fill the role.

Mahabir is also expecting Trinidadian Kevin Jeffery of Carolina Rail Hawks to join his club during the American League break as well.

Jeffery a former national player played for the ‘Grande Stars’ last season while on break. He also played with Toronto Lynx, Richmond Kickers and Bay Area Seals.
