W Connection and Trinidad and Tobago internationals Jan Michael Williams and Silvio Spann returned to Trinidad on Monday night following trials in Europe with high hopes of earning English contracts.

Goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams who had spent two weeks in Hungary with First Division club Ujpest FC together with another T&T international and Caledonia AIA player Densill Theobald in early July gambled his chances with Sheffield United where he spent another two weeks.

Theobald was offered and signed a one-year deal with the Hungarian club and according to Williams he too was offered a deal.

The W Connection goalie told ‘ttproleague.com’, “After the trial in Hungary I spoke with both the Coach and President of the club and they had a contract offer for me, but I decided to take a gamble at Sheffield United. I decided to go to Sheffield regardless of how it could turn out as I had until the 11th of July to agree on the Ujpest offer. That time has passed and I am taking my chances with the English club,” he said.

Jan picked up an ankle strain just in his second day of his Sheffield United trial, which forced him to miss just over a week with the team.

Jan returned to the training field and played a couple of practice matches with the Championship Division Club where he impressed the English Coaches.

According to Jan Michael Williams he has earned himself a contract with Sheffield and it’s just a matter of being offered an English work permit, which is expected to come through at the end of July.

Confidently Williams said, “Once I get the work permit I would be heading back up to England.”

“We are in the process of negotiating the personal terms of the contract, but with everything else it is more or less concrete,” assured the W Connection goalie.

While his W Connection club teammate Silvio Spann is fancying his chances at Premiership club Sunderland FC with the possibility of joining former T&T marquee players Dwight Yorke, Stern John and Carlos Edwards.

Silvio Spann had spent two weeks on trial in July with Sheffield United before switching to the Premiership club where he spent three days and is confident of securing a deal in the near future with the Roy Keane coached team.
