SILVIO SPANN is delighted to be able to concentrate on what he does best - playing football.
The Trinidad and Tobago international, who left W Connection in his homeland to sign a three-year deal with Wrexham, has seen paperwork delay his transfer during the first few weeks of the season.
But having received a work permit and international clearance, Spann was registered as a Wrexham player before last Friday's transfer deadline, and the 26-year-old midfielder is relieved that he focus on playing for the Reds.
"I am a Wrexham player and delighted. I am glad it is all sorted and I am raring to go," said Spann today. "As a player, you don't want to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of paperwork. I am happy being left out of it and now it is all sorted, I can concentrate on getting settled in here.
"I will get my head down and concentrate on playing to the best of my ability for Wrexham.
"I just want to do my best for Wrexham and will give my all every time I play."
Spann's first run-out in Wrexham colours came in a specially arranged practice match against Stockport last week.
And Spann was due to play for Wrexham reserves in their clash Pontin's League clash at The Racecourse this afternoon (2pm kick off).
Having previously had trials at Sunderland and Sheffield United during pre-season, and been involved in friendly matches, Spann said he is gettingclose to full fitness.
"I am looking forward to my first game at The Racecourse," said Spann. "I enjoyed my first game for Wrexham. A couple more of those and I should be ready for my first league game.
"I will be settled in then. I am getting to know the lads, and they have been great with me.
"I am nearly there in terms of match fitness but I will be right up there after a few more matches.
"The last time I had played before signing for Wrexham was about three and a half weeks ago. But I trained over the summer and had two pre-seasons - one with my old club when we were away in Brazil, and another with Sheffield United - so I've had matches.
"It was just training with Sunderland, but as I said, I just need a few more games."
Spann was introduced to Wrexham supporters during the half-time interval at last week's Carling Cup second round defeat against Aston Villa, and he appreciated the ovation he received.
"It was a tremendous ovation, really nice from the Wrexham supporters. I will cherish that moment," added Spann.
Striker Juan Ugarte and midfielder Matty Crowell were due to continue their comebacks from long term injuries by playing for the reserves this afternoon.
"It is another game for Silvio, Juan and Matt," said Reds' boss Brian Carey today. "They all need matches and it is a great opportunity for them to get another 90 minutes.
"Silvio just needs to settle in and get used to us and the game over here, as well as the area and the environment."
Eifion Williams, Gareth Evans, Marc Williams, Josh Johnson and Wes Baynes were also in action.
