JASON SCOTLAND was delighted to end his five-game goal drought at Yeovil, but insisted the team’s performance was even more important.

Despite an impressive start to the season, the Trinidad and Tobago striker had been struggling to find the net in recent weeks.

But he brought his barren spell to an end on Saturday as the Swans finally won a game at Huish Park.

The striker admits the drought was playing on his mind and he was clearly overjoyed to be back on the goal trail.

But he insists his personal satisfaction is outweighed by the importance of the team win.

“The boys told me we had never scored here, so I’m delighted to get the goal,” he said.

“I wanted to score because I hadn’t got a goal in so many games and it was good to get one.

“I’m obviously happy to be back on the scoresheet.

“But it’s a team game, we got three points today and that’s the most important thing.

“We came here for three points and we are happy to be leaving with them.”

Scotland is now back at the top of the Swans scoring charts with seven goals.

As is often the case, chances were a rare commodity on Saturday, but the 28-year-old knows he is capable of making the most of whatever opportunities come his way.

He added, “I don’t shoot much, but when I do it’s effective.

“To be honest, I’m happy with that and I am delighted to be scoring again.”

Scotland has found it hard to pinpoint why he hasn’t been scoring.

But, while he acknowledges the general quality of defending in League One, he believes it all depends on how each player performs on the day.

“It’s tough and hopefully I can get back in some goal-scoring form,” he said.

“But I’m coming up against some quality defenders.

“On the day I could be good or they might do their job, you never know.

Hopefully it will be me.”

Roberto Martinez warned the Swans it wouldn’t be an easy game at Yeovil.

But, having won their battle, Scotland believes the team can be proud of their achievement at Huish Park.

“The gaffer had said it would be a battle and that we had to win it and earn the right to play,” he said.

“We did that today and not many teams will come here and get the result like we did.

“The boys have a togetherness and really have a winning mentality now.

“Hopefully, we can keep it going.

“It’s good to get three points and be on the sort of run we are. Hopefully, we can keep it going and make sure that we get promoted.”
