Hector Sam believes a new regime to get him in top shape will help make him a real hit with Notts County.
The striker made only his fourth league start against Lincoln on Saturday after impressing manager Ian McParland with his work ethic in training.
The Magpies boss praised Sam for his performance and the former Wrexham and Walsall hitman believes a new-found sharpness can see him build on his two goals at Meadow Lane.
The Trinidad and Tobago international said: "I have been waiting for a quite a while and I thought I did reasonably well. I have been working hard in training, lost a bit of weight and was happy to get the chance.
"I had a bit of fat on and the manager said I needed to lose a bit of weight. I am on a strict diet now and hopefully that will continue.
"I feel much sharper and it shows in my play."
Sam made an instant impact off the bench against his former club Wrexham, causing problems and winning the last-minute free kick from which Notts won the game.
He then scored against Histon in the first round of the FA Cup and he hopes to do the same if given the chance against Havant and Waterlooville at Meadow Lane this Saturday.
"I need to keep going, I need to get the goals and we need to get wins," added Sam.
