Swans boss Roberto Martinez was pleased with the return of Jason Scotland to starting line-up for last night's friendly win over ADO Den Haag.
Roberto is happy with the progress that last season's top-scorer has made but admits that Scotland's fitness will still be monitored in the day's leading up to Saturday's opener at The Valley.
"We're delighted with Jason's progress," admitted Roberto. "I don't think that anybody thought he would have played an hour against Den Haag and he came through with no problems.
"But we still want to get Jason to the best possible fitness levels and that's what we're going to work on over the next few days, and after that we'll allow him to enjoy his football.
"We need to carry on with our work for Saturday and then we'll see where we are but it's always a plus when you have players available."
The squad used last night's game as final preparation ahead of the game on Saturday, the first in the second tier of League football for 24 years, and the Gaffer revealed that there is still a chance that Scotland could take part at Charlton.
"He's got a chance to be involved in the squad but you could see that he isn't at the level to play 90 minutes," admitted Roberto. "Over the next two to three days we'll see how he's progressing in his fitness and hopefully there'll be no reaction. We'll keep an eye on him and see if he's okay for Saturday.
"You always have to wait a bit over the next 12 hours following a game but hopefully he'll have no reaction."
With just three days left until the big opener Roberto won't reveal who's likely to be involved against the former Premiership side, citing the fact that football will pick the team and not him.
Nearly 30 players have been involved over pre-season in games against Continental, Welsh and Football League opposition, barring defender Angel Rangel, so there are plenty of options available to the boss to think about.
I've said before that I don't pick the team," he said. "I believe that football makes the decision and the boys select themselves.
"The Den Haag game was another exercise and we worked really well in what we wanted to do and what you can see from the outset is what fantastic competition we have in the side, and that's what we want.
"Charlton for us is not our final, our final is the 10 month competition we have in the Championship so we need every player ready to play their role and that's what I'm interested in.
"I'm not interested in to see who's going to be in the first eleven at Charlton, I'm interested in the boys that are going to play a massive role for Swansea City this season and that they're ready to improve on what we achieved last season."
It also looks likely that the Swans will head for London with just one goalkeeper on the coach. Trialist 'keeper Derek Soutar, the former Aberdeen and Scotland U-21 stopper, will not be offered a deal at the club and Roberto is happy to go with just one shot-stopper for the game against Charlton.
"The goalkeeping situation is completely different to any other position on the pitch," he said. "We always follow a few names and in an emergency situation you can always bring one in straight away.
"It's just the case of assessing how Dorus is feeling and we need to get the right 'keeper in to compete with him. We're going to take our time and if there's a reason we need that extra cover and extra body we'll always make it happen.
"You look at Dorus' stats and his age, he played every single game last season and every single minute in the league campaign so he is a reliable 'keeper. We're not in a position to bring someone in for the sake of it and when we need someone we'll bring the right person in."
Speaking on the game against Den Haag, Roberto was pleased with another worthwhile exercise against the Dutch top-flight side but felt his players could have been more ruthless in front of goal
"I was very happy because we got through with no injuries," he admitted. "I love to play this sort of side because it brings you something different.
"If there is a downside it's the fact that we didn't take the chances we should have scored from, and in that respect we're at that point when we need to sharpen things up.
"The squad is looking strong, they were very well organised and you can see straight away the competition we're going to have in the squad."

Roberto Martinez hailed Jason Scotland's powers of recovery after last night's friendly win over Den Haag - then hinted the striker will start on the bench at Charlton on Saturday.
Last season's 29-goal top-scorer lasted an hour as Swansea City saw off the Dutch tourists thanks to a goal from Andrea Orlandi.
It was Scotland's first start since the spring after summer surgery on a long-standing groin problem.
Given that fellow frontman Gorka Pintado definitely misses this weekend's Championship opener, Scotland could be the ideal man to lead Swansea's frontline.
But Martinez said: ''We need players to be 100 per cent and we won't take any risks.
''We are delighted with Jason's progress. Nobody expected him to play an hour against Den Haag and we are happy that he came through it well.
''But it's early days to say whether he will start at Charlton. He has got a chance to be involved but you could see against Den Haag that he wasn't ready for 90 minutes.
''We will assess him over the next two or three days to see exactly how he is and then a make decision for the weekend.''
