stern_john_bc_frontStern John has spoken for the first time since joining City on loan until January 1st and declared: "I'm here to be a team man."

The 31-year-old striker arrived at Ashton Gate today to complete the loan switch and link up with City's squad ahead of tomorrow's Championship clash with Barnsley - where he could make his debut.

And he is determined to impress the City supporters if he dons his new number 31 shirt at Oakwell tomorrow.

In an exclusive Bristol City World interview, Stern said: "The gaffer here (Gary Johnson) has been looking at me for a couple of months and when I came back from the last international break [Southampton] told me of Bristol City's interest.

"I was definitely interested because of the way they play their football. I spoke to the manager a few nights ago and the rest is history.

"I'm a team player. I play with my back to goal pretty well and holding the ball up is one of my strengths - enabling me to bring my team-mates into play.

"I've to come to Bristol City and hopefully the team will move up the table while I'm here. I want to come here and continue where I left off from last season.

"I'm going to have to work my way in because it's a new team, and I trained with them for the first time today - they're a great bunch of lads.

"They play the way I love to play football and this should be a great opportunity to me.

"I'm travelling with the team to Barnsley. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play and show the fans what I can do."

Trinidad & Tobago's leading goalscorer of all time has already seen one friendly face in the shape of Dele Adebola.

He revealed their special connection: "I can't run away from him.

"We played together at Birmingham and Coventry, and now at Bristol City. We're also neighbours up in Birmingham!

"He's a good lad, a top man and he showed me around the club today. It's great to be playing with him again."
