Goalkeeper Clayton Ince wants Walsall to “keep to their side of bargain” and open new contract talks before Christmas.
Ince would be happy to continue but it is wondering whether owner Jeff Bonser’s warnings this week about looming cutbacks because of the recession will have an impact on his future.
The shotstopper is happy to rely on a “gentleman’s agreement” with manager Jimmy Mullen to begin talks before the end of the year but is clearly hoping for a signal that this season at the Banks’s Stadium will not be his last.
Ince said: “We’re looking to have talks by the Christmas period so we can see what’s happening. The gaffer has already spoken to me about it but I don’t want to go into too much detail.
“I like to focus on playing and leave it to the management team to think about contracts. I am keeping up my end of the bargain by keeping fit, performing and trying to get Walsall points, so hopefully they will keep up their end of the bargain.”
