Chris BirchallBoss Dean Glover has refused to rule out a loan swoop for former Port Vale midfielder Chris Birchall. Glover is keen to boost his squad before the loan market shuts down on November 27, and recently missed out on capturing a young Blackburn Rovers midfielder.
The 24-year-old Birchall has yet to play for Championship side Coventry this season and has made only 19 starts for the club since his £325,000 switch from Vale in August 2006. Glover said: "He's a name that has been brought up before and he's somebody we might be interested in if he's available.

"I've not made contact with Coventry, or with Chris himself, and I think he's away with Trinidad at the moment.

"I don't know if we will make contact and I don't know what his situation is at Coventry, although he has not been in favour there."

Birchall's contract runs out at the end of the season and, in August, Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman hinted he was willing to offload him, along with fellow fringe players Kevin Kyle and Gary Borrowdale. Striker Kyle and defender Borrowdale subsequently joined Hartlepool and Colchester on loan, while Birchall remained at the Ricoh Arena.

The Stafford-born winger hit the headlines in 2006 when he starred for Trinidad and Tobago at the World Cup Finals in Germany. And he has been named in the Soca Warriors' squad for their home World Cup qualifier against Cuba on Wednesday. After coming through the trainee ranks at Vale Park, he scored nine goals in 91 appearances between 2001-06.
