Carlisle United have snapped up Coventry City midfielder Chris Birchall on loan until the end of December.
However, the Trinidad & Tobago international has accepted a move to Carlisle, with a view to the League One club taking over his contract for the rest of the season.
The Cumbrians' caretaker manager Greg Abbott is confident the Trinidad & Tobago international will improve the quality in his midfield.
Excellent attitude
"We watched Chris last season, and Dennis Booth has been down a couple of times to watch him this time round, so he is a player that we know all about," Abbott told the club's official website.
"He'll provide a bit of strength and competition in the midfield and wide areas, and we think that we have got ourselves a good player.
"He has international experience, and he is a young player with an excellent attitude, and we hope that he has the same kind of impact that the signings of Tim Krul and Michael Liddle have had over the course of the last few games.
"We have all been delighted with them, and I am sure that it will be the same with Chris."
Meanwhile, Carlisle have allowed youngster Luke Joyce to join non-league side Barrow on loan until 5th January.
