GOALKEEPING coach John Granville insists Swindon's future is in safe hands as he looks to rebuild the confidence of Town's two "number one" shot stoppers.

Both Peter Brezovan and Phil Smith have come under the spotlight lately following a spate of soft goals, with the Robins yet to keep a clean sheet in any competition.

Brezovan is expected to get the nod for today's visit of Huddersfield Town, and Granville has encouraged the giant Slovak to "relax" and enjoy the County Ground atmosphere.

"I am lucky to have what I would call two number one goalkeepers at a club of this level, but that in itself brings an added pressure," Granville told the Advertiser.

"Normally at this level you have a number one, and a younger kid coming through, so the senior player is more relaxed.

"The pressures of wanting to be number one, with the other guy breathing down your neck, can make you feel tense and you make these fundamental errors.

"Especially for goalkeepers, as we have seen lately, if you make an error it's a goal.

"I feel for them, because I sit there and I make every save and I concede every goal. I know how hard we have worked.

"It's my job to reiterate that we are good at what we do, and try to get them to believe in themselves."

A former Trinidad international, Granville has a wealth of experience between the posts, having kept goal for English clubs Aldershot Town, Millwall and Wycombe Wanderers.

He joined the County Ground staff in July 2007, and lately has been working tirelessly in a bid to plug the leaks in the Town defence.

"From my point of view, I work with them week in week out and I know what they can do," said Granville.

"This season there have been some personal errors because I think they have been a bit tense.

"The more relaxed they are, the better I think they will perform.

Granville added: "It would be nice to have that first clean sheet against Huddersfield, but it's more important that we win the game. Three points is all that matters."
