Gudjon Thordarson has told the club's official web-site that he could well venture into loan market to supplement his defensive options. The Crewe Alexandra manager hopes to tie up a short-term deal before Saturday's trip to Northampton Town if at all possible.
The Icelander is concerned with his defensive numbers after Dennis Lawrence was forced off with an Achilles injury in Saturday's morale boosting win over Sc**thorpe United. The Trinidad and Tobago International is rated as a major doubt for Saturday's trip to the Sixfields but the Alex boss hopes his experienced defender will be fit to face Peterborough a week today.

Lawrence will undergo a routine scan to assess the damage to his ankle. His replacement on Saturday, Danny O'Donnell scored the winning goal and is expected to partner captain Julien Baudet this weekend.

Gudjon told the club's official web-site: "Dennis will undergo a scan on his ankle. We are not totally sure of the seriousness or extent of the damage. He has had an injection in the ankle to reduce the swelling and that has helped.

"We are hoping it is not too serious and although he is a doubt for Saturday, we hope he could be available for the Tuesday game at Peterborough. It is very sore at the moment and has flaired up at the heal.

"We are skating on thin ice a bit at centre-back and we will target a centre-half on loan. If there is a chance of bringing one in then we will. If possible that would be before the weekend, but that is often easier said than done.

"With loan signings, it can be difficult because even though the two clubs agree on a deal, the players still has the opportunity to pull the plug on it."
