Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has told his team-mates they can count on him as the Saddlers prepare to embark on their travels.
Ince shipped four goals as Leicester City ran riot in a 4-1 win at the Banks’s Stadium on Tuesday.

With a tricky trip to Hartlepool looming on Saturday and another long journey to follow against Carlisle next week, Walsall need to tighten up.

But Ince has told his defence, who could welcome back Stephen Roberts on Saturday, they should forget their Tuesday nightmare.

The veteran Trinidad and Tobago international said: “I’m there to support them, motivate them and help them move forward.

“If goals keep going in the youngsters will get depressed and they think they have no support from behind and no support from in front.

“My job is to make sure no goals are scored. It’s not 100 per cent all the time but, as long as the youngsters know they have someone behind them they can depend on, then if they make their mistakes we’ll be okay.

“My job is to help keep the score at least 0-0.”

Ince knows, without senior players such as Roberts, the defence could suffer through inexperience.

The 36-year-old said: “It’s hard because there are few senior guys – Anthony Gerrard is still 22 so he’s learning still, but we just have to keep a still head and we might get some luck.

“But what is pretty good is that we can draw out a couple of youngsters to make the team and push them on to good things.”
