Let's really put the cat among the pigeons – in a few years' time Clayton Ince could be remembered as a bigger Saddlers legend than Jimmy Walker?
It is tough and maybe pointless to compare the two as they are completely different types of goalkeeper.
Wacka the more agile shot-stopper, Ince the bigger, imposing type who comes to collect every high ball going.
And while the 'Super Jimmy Walker' chants were reverberating around the Banks's Stadium for much of the second half, a 'Super Clayton Ince' one would not have gone amiss either.
Walker's achievements during his decade between the Walsall posts are too numerous to list here and his contribution to the club will be long remembered by all.
It took a while for the Saddlers to find an adequate replacement when he left for West Ham but they finally found one in Ince a couple of summers ago.
Breaking the club's clean sheet record in his first year and proving one of the top stoppers at League One level since, Ince has certainly elevated himself to something approaching Walker's status.
He showed his value to the Saddlers within just 90 seconds of the kick off on Saturday, rescuing a shocking mistake by Chris Palmer.
The defender twice dawdled on the ball just outside his box, allowing Jamie Guy to rob him but the striker's shot was foiled by the legs of Ince.
He shone again on the ten-minute mark, denying Guy one-on-one for the second time, just getting a touch on the ball as the forward slumped to the ground over him.
Walsall's first real attack almost led to a goal as Michael Ricketts flicked on a Sofiene Zaaboub corner and Stephen Hughes hit the ball on the volley, only for Walker to scramble it onto the post.
But it was 1-0 to the hosts on 16 minutes as Deeney, Nicholls and Zaaboub were all involved in a quickfire break that ended with the latter's cross-shot being turned home by Ricketts.
Walker did well to foil Deeney from another counter but it was 2-0 four minutes before the break and the in-form Zaaboub – as with many Saddlers goals lately – was at the heart of the move.
He surged through the Colchester midfield to feed Nicholls on the right and the winger's cross was nodded back across goal by Ricketts for Deeney to loop a perfect header over Walker into the top corner.
Ince showed more evidence of his quality after the break, narrowing the angle to block a shot from former Saddler Clive Platt.
Colchester thought they had pulled a goal back on the hour as Paul Reid fired home a volley after Platt flicked on a free kick but the scorer was adjudged offside.
From there, the game petered out as Colchester seemed to accept their fate, although Simon Hackney should have done better than fire wide at the far post when unmarked.
Conceding a late goal would have been harsh on the superb Ince, though, who showed while he might not be 'Number One' just yet, he is fixing to give Wacka a good run for his money...
