Kenwyne Jones in action for his former club SouthamptonKENWYNE Jones will concentrate on his own pre-season preparations as Sunderland look to add Peter Crouch and Darren Bent to their strike force for the start of next season.

With £6m Fraizer Campbell already secured from Manchester United, Jones – should he remain on Wearside – faces stiff competition for his places in the side.

But last night he declared himself unconcerned about that prospect.

Jones said: "I don't know a lot about Fraizer. I've seen him playing for Tottenham and Hull this last year, but I don't really know too much about him.

"I know he's done well and I congratulate him on getting his move. Hopefully, we can come together as a pair because that's important.

"I've heard the talk about Peter Crouch, but I don't feel concerned about it all. A bid for anyone puts pressure on a lot of people.

"That's the nature of football. I can't worry about whether Peter Crouch is coming or not, all I can do is work on my own game and leave the rest up to the manager.

"If Peter Crouch comes, we will be a strong team. But I'll still be confident in my own ability and expect to play a big part in the team next season."

This time last summer, Jones was getting ready for surgery on the knee he damaged in Trinidad & Tobago's international friendly with England.

He returned to action in October, but took time to find his form.

Jones added: "I don't want to blame the lack of a pre-season, but I didn't really feel 100 per cent like myself until right at the end of last season.

"It was quite difficult to get back to being myself after such a serious injury.

"I'm pleased to be able to put all of that behind me and look forward to an injury-free campaign."
