JASON SCOTLAND has expressed his delight at joining Wigan Athletic and said how he can't wait to taste what the Barclays Premier League has to offer.

Speaking shortly before his first training session with his new team-mates Scotland revealed how the opportunity to team up with Roberto Martinez was simply irresistible:

He said: "It's great to have joined Wigan Athletic and get the chance to play in the Premier League

"It's a big step up for me but hopefully I can take it in my stride and do well. I'm confident that by putting in hard work it will bring results.

"To get the chance to play at venues like Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, is something I can't wait to experience, and just thinking about lining up against some of the best players in the world makes me smile, and I'll relish that challenge.

"Anybody who is playing in the lower divisions wants to play in the Premier League and show the world what they can do, and that's no different for me, I'm so excited to get this opportunity.

"I want to fit in and gel with my team-mates first, that's really important to me. After that I'll giving it everything I've got to get results for the club."

Scotland of course worked with Martinez at Swansea City, which he revealed was a big factor in his decision to move to Latics, and he gave an insight into how the gaffer likes his team to play:

"Me and the gaffer were together at Swansea City for two seasons and it's exciting to be able to team up again here.

"He likes his team to get the ball down, move it around and keep possession. He wants his players to be in complete control of the game and because of this tactical approach to the game Swansea were able to do so well last season.

"I'm sure he's going to try and introduce that kind of attractive style of play here and I can't wait to be a part of it."
