Carlos Edwards started the Amsterdam Tournament with a bang after he was forced out of the Benfica game due to a head injury.
Winger Carlos Edwards is sporting a sore head this evening after he was forced out of the 2-0 defeat to Benfica at the Amsterdam ArenA.
The Trinidad & Tobago international came off worst in a challenge for the ball in front of the dug-outs 26 minutes in, sustaining a nasty gash on his head.
Edwards was helped off immediately and taken to the dressing room, where club medical staff inserted five stitches to close the wound.
He will be monitored carefully in training before a decision is made on his availability ahead of the game against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
"Carlos went off and had stitches but he'll be fine," manager Steve Bruce added.
Edwards trains as normal.

But he showed no ill effects this morning as the squad split into two groups as part of preparations for tomorrow's clash with Atletico Madrid.
The group who started last night's game were a handed a slightly more low-key session, while those who didn't trained as normal.
