The former head coach of Trinidad & Tobago's national soccer team, the Soca Warriors, will be in Mississauga Saturday to conduct a coaching clinic.

Hannibal Najjar, who became head coach and technical director of the club in 2002, will be front-and-centre at the Hershey Centre Fields starting at 9 a.m. He guided Trinidad & Tobago to the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006, when it became the smallest country ever to do so.

The clinic is sponsored by Dixie SC and Brampton FC. All coaches are welcome to attend. There's no fee, but donations to The Sick Kids Foundation will be accepted.

In his short stint at the helm, Najjar had an impressive record, going 8-3-1 and lifting the team to a No.-47 world ranking by FIFA.

With over 30 years of coaching experience, Najjar returns to a country he still calls home. He was a coach with Ontario’s provincial program from 1990-1993, and head coach of the Canada Games team in 1993.

In 1994, he left Canada to become head coach and athletic director at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1995, he was named head coach of the Jackson Chargers of the United Soccer League, where they were two-time conference champions and a national finalist.

“He had a massive influence on me, and I hope Hannibal returns to Canada one day because he is a great role model for both players and coaches,” said Jason Bent, who played for Najjar and is now an assistant coach with Toronto FC.
