Roy Keane won't decide on his line-up for the trip to the Riverside until he has spoken to new signing Carlos Edwards tonight.
Carlos played for his country in their World Cup qualifier in Honduras last weekend, then took on the US in Port of Spain on Wednesday.
"We have not seen Carlos yet and I will sit down and speak to him before I decide on the team," Roy told Ipswich Player.
"He has played the two games and done a lot of travelling so that is something that I have to think about and we won't want to take a gamble on him with another game on Tuesday night to think about.
"Some players don't mind the travelling though. They won't be sitting at the back of the plane, they will be in first class and getting some sleep and knowing Carlos as I do, he will want to play."
The former Luton player, Grant Leadbitter and Liam Rosenior are all included in the squad of 18 for the game, with the trio in line to make their debuts and Roy is delighted to have them on board.
"I obviously know Grant and Carlos well from working together at Sunderland," adds the boss.
"Grant keeps the ball well in midfield and can score goals and Carlos gives us some pace down the flank and that is something I think we have been missing.
"Liam is a very good player and getting him for the year is a bonus. He's got pace as well and I think he and Carlos can work really well together down the right side.
"Middlesbrough will be a tough test for us and the game will give us a chance to see how far we have come with the three new lads added to the side.
"I expect Middlesbrough to be in the mix at the end of the season. Gareth [Southgate] has moved a few players on in the summer and replaced them with young, hungry lads and they have had a decent start to the season so we know what to expect.
"I've got a lot of time for Gareth and his coaching team. I've enjoyed games against them with Sunderland and they are good people. I'm looking forward to it and hopefully we can get the win we need to get our season going."
Jaime Peters has recovered from an ankle injury and is contention to feature while Middlesbrough could have 'keeper Brad Jones and midfielder Gary O'Neil back.
