Carlos Edwards today called for Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane to sign two central defenders after Saturday's 4-0 home thrashing by Newcastle United.
While the Magpies went to the top of the table, the Blues are left floundering near the foot with 11 goals conceded since Edwards arrived from Sunderland four games ago.
“Defending is not rocket science,” said an honest Edwards. “And if you cannot achieve the basics then you shouldn't be playing football.
“We have players who have been playing for quite a long while yet there were still schoolboy errors.
“The manager needs to bring in two central defenders and maybe a midfielder. I am speaking as a player, but the fans will think so as well.
“A lack of concentration led to us conceding bad goals and if we carry on in the same fashion we will be in this position at the end of the season.
“It is unacceptable to ourselves, our families and in particular to our fans.”

IPSWICH Town winger Carlos Edwards could one day rattle up a century of appearances for his country.
Edwards has again been called up to Trinidad & Tobago's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica (October 10) and Mexico (October 14).
A £1.35m signing from Sunderland last month, Edwards has already earned 76 caps for his country. However, the 30-year-old will not be going to South Africa for next year's World Cup Finals, because Trinidad are rock bottom of their qualifying group and with no chance of qualification.
Edwards is seventh in Trinidad's all-time list of appearance makers, behind the top two of Angus Eve (117) and current Crystal Palace striker Stern John (109).
Dwight Yorke, probably the country's most famous son, made 72 appearances during his career before retiring this summer. He is the current assistant manager of the national team.
IPSWICH Town Academy player Josh Carson scored for Northern Ireland Under-17s in their 2-0 win over Greece in yesterday's friendly international in Athens. Town team-mates Cormac Burke and Rory McKeown also played. Carson and Burke both started, while McKeown came on as a substitute.

New Ipswich Town signing Carlos Edwards has pledged his support to under-fire manager Roy Keane after the Tractor Boys’ dismal start to the season continued at the weekend.
High-flying Middlesbrough eased to a 3-1 victory at the Riverside Stadium, with Ipswich’s goal coming from the spot in injury time.
The result left Keane’s under-achievers second from bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship table without a win.
But Edwards, signed by Keane for the second time before the summer transfer deadline, says the players are behind the Corkman.
He said: “Individually I don’t know how the manager gets through this, that’s down to him, but collectively we have to work with him because the finger is pointed at him.
“We need to stick together and keep working towards our goal, which is getting the first win and pushing forward from there.”
