CARLOS EDWARDS has warned Wrexham fans not to treat him as their saviour - not yet anyway.
The popular wing-back made an instant
impression in his comeback appearance, scoring a fine solo goal for the
reserves against Bury on Wednesday.
The game marked Edwards' first run-out since rupturing his cruciate ligaments while on international duty in June.
But with the first team currently struggling for survival points at the wrong end of League One, Edwards has pleaded for patience from Wrexham's expectant supporters.
"All I have to say to the fans is don't expect me to come flying out of the blocks like Linford Christie and win the gold medal straight away," he said.
"It will take time to get back into the swing of things so the fans need to give me a few weeks.
"I know what the fans expect and in return I will always give my all.
"You never know, things could go really well immediately but it would be wrong to expect too much too soon."
One thing Edwards is expecting is some indication in the near future as to whether he'll be signing a new contract with the Red Dragons.
The Trinidadian international is keen to open talks on a new deal, saying he has come to regard the Racecourse as a second home.
With prospective Wrexham owner Andrew Smith hopeful of tying up a deal to buy the club and the ground from Alex Hamilton, Edwards might just get his wish.
"I'd love to stay with Wrexham but at present things are at a standstill until the club's future is sorted," added Edwards, (below).
"At the moment I'm focussed on just getting back out on the pitch.
"The injury was the worst of my career but I have taken my time and tried to keep positive."
