While Derek McInnes clocks-up his 100th game in charge, striker Collin Samuel could make his 50th appearance in a Saints shirt against Motherwell.

The Trinidad and Tobago centre has his sights set on reclaiming the top scorer accolade, currently held by Liam Craig on eight.

Samuel has played bit parts from the bench as he works his way back from knee surgery.

But he was bursting with energy in a cameo against Hibs last weekend.

“I didn’t know this could be my 50th game. I don’t really count appearances. I don’t know how many games I played for Falkirk and Dundee United.

“But I’m looking forward to the Motherwell game. I’m desperate to start again but I have to bide my time and take my chance when it comes.”

Samuel, like Filipe Morais, may have to be patient to reclaim his starting slot.

Kenny Deuchar is fit despite an ankle injury scare and Cillian Sheridan returns to Perth today after playing for Ireland U21s.

Murray Davidson missed out on a Scotland U21 debut with his ongoing groin problem but he has taken injections and could start against Motherwell. Kevin Moon returned to training yesterday after a thigh knock.

McInnes said midfielder Jody Morris would rejoin the squad today after resting-up a stomach muscle tear but hinted that his return to action could go on hold, with a series of midweek matches on the horizon.

Defender Graham Gartland is back in contention after a chest infection.

Kevin Rutkiewicz will resume training next week after knee joint inflammation. Stuart McCaffrey has been down south for sugar injections in his pelvis but, like Peter MacDonald, his return is three or four weeks away.

McInnes has been impressed with Motherwell’s run of form, which has taken them into the top six.

But he hasn’t been surprised by the impact made by Craig Brown and former Ibrox assistant Archie Knox.

“Craig is an experienced international manager and Archie was the perfect foil for Walter Smith at Rangers. We still keep in touch. At Hampden in midweek Archie was asking my team for Saturday. I told him to read the PA!

“They will be confident after this run of form but there’s self-belief, confidence and an assurance about us now. We have had two good games with Motherwell and hopefully we can make those qualities count this weekend.”
