St Johnstone forward Collin Samuel was relieved to break his scoring duck against Caley Thistle, but unhappy the Perth club did not capitalise on their first-half dominance at the Caledonian Stadium.
The 29-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international netted early on, but after squandering chances Jonny Hayes levelled in the second half to deny the Saints a first away win of the season.
The former Falkirk and Dundee United attacker said: “We were not expecting the game to go as it did in the second half. We wanted to keep the same tempo as we did in the first half. Unfortunately it was not like that.
“I think we created a number of chances and we needed to take them.
“It is quite frustrating when we play like we did in the first half and then in the second half it was a totally different game.
“It was my first goal of the season and I am happy to get off the mark.
“Usually when you score one there is more to come.”
St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes shared Samuel’s frustration.
He said: “It was very disappointing.
“Even away from home this season we have dominated and not finished games off.
“I have got to be really pleased with the first-half performance. Very rarely will you find a team going away from home in the SPL and running the game as we did.
“We had so much of the play, our appetite, aggression and the way we created chances was great to watch.
“We knew Inverness would react in the second half, but we are disappointed we did not take our chances to finish the game.
“You will never get the full game for 90 minutes, especially away from home, and I felt the Inverness goal was coming.
“Credit to them for dragging themselves back into the game. For long spells there only looked as though there was going to be one winner.
“People who were not at the game will think 1-1 is a decent result, but we are disappointed we have not picked up all three points.”
