English born former national midfielder Ronnie Mauge believes that Russell Latapy can take the current team to higher heights but would like to see the player acquiring some additional support as he attempts to take the “Soca Warriors” forward.

Mauge currently runs a football school in Ipswich, Suffolk which sometimes includes the presence of Kenwyne Jones and Carlos Edwards.

“Russell Latapy is one of the most gifted footballers I have had the privilege of playing with,” said Mauge “I think it is great that T&T ha s appointed someone who has come through the ranks and who the young T&T players always looked up to.

He knows the heart of the people and I am sure they will get behind him. I would also like to see someone with experience of international football helping and guiding Russell as he cuts his teeth on the international arena as a manager,” Mauge added.

“I hope Russell does a fantastic job and is given the time he needs.” Mauge lined up for Fulham Masters at Wembley earlier this year where he played against the likes of Ian Wright, Paul Ince, Ray Parlour and Jamie Redknapp among others.

Mauge also played during his career for Manchester City, Fulham, Bristol Rovers and Charlton Athletic. He appeared for T&T during the 2002 World Cup qualifying campaign.
