The Galaxy opened training camp Monday shy two players, and we found out why Tuesday.
Trinidadian defender Yohance Marshall's contract option was declined by the club, and supplemental draft choice Zach Johnson has decided not to pursue a soccer career.
Marshall, who played in three games for the Galaxy last season, was released in late December. The club announced the move Tuesday. He was widely viewed as the No. 5 center back on the roster and spent most of the past two seasons on loan to the Austin Aztex of the second-tier USSF D2 Pro League.
Johnson, a star goalkeeper at West Virginia University, was taken in the third round, with the 52nd overall selection, of last week's supplemental draft. He informed Galaxy officials that he was pursuing other professional opportunities; he was an industrial engineering major at West Virginia.
