The Rochester Rhinos improved their preseason record to 2-0-1 with a 2-0 win over the University of Buffalo at Sahlen’s Stadium on Thursday night. Kendall Jagdeosingh and Andrew Hoxie teamed up to provide the offense in the Rhinos win.
Jagdeosingh recorded his first goal of the exhibition season in the 25’ minute when he and Hoxie pressured the UB goal. The pressure provided by the duo would result in Jagdeosingh’s shot from 13 yards deflecting in for a 1-0 Rochester lead.
Jagdeosingh had an opportunity to increase the Rhino lead when he was taken down in the box two minutes later. The forward, however failed to convert on his penalty kick attempt leaving the score 1-0.
The second half began with good movement by the Rochester attach. Hoxie and Jagdeosingh were once again causing trouble for the UB defense as Hoxie played a ball through the seam and into the box to Jagdeosingh. The Trinidadian forward turned with the ball and crossed it back to Hoxie who buried a header from eight yards to give Rochester a 2-0 lead.
Rochester appeared to add a third goal with five minutes remaining however Brad Stisser’s goal off a scramble in front of the net was disallowed for interference with the goalkeeper.
Goalkeepers Neil Kitson and Ryan Kenny each played a half and combined for the shutout.
Rochester will continue preseason play with an exhibition match on Sunday, April 3rd at Sahlen’s Stadium against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The match is free and open to the public.
