Gianfranco Di Julio, aged 24, is an Italian-born midfielder who has played for the Venezuela national under-20 football team. Di Julio has played in Venezuela, Italy, and Spain. Despite being short (5' 9") Di Julio could bring a new flare for the Sounders FC. Currently only three players are from Venezuela.
18-year-old Cordell Cato is also at Starfire Sports Complex for a trial. The former St. Anthony's College player currently plays for the San Juan Jabloteh in the TT Pro League in Trinidad and Tobago. He joined the Port of Spain based club in January 2010. Cato recently featured in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championships, where he played five minutes against Cuba. T&T were knocked out at the group stage without scoring a single goal.
This is not the first time a Trinidadian has tried out for the Sounders FC. Three trialist have failed to make the squad and Cato could be the first. In February 2009, World Cup veteran Densill Theobald was on trial while Akeem Adams featured in a friendly against Chivas Guadalajara. The most recent trialist is Kerry Baptiste, who went on trial towards the end of the 2010 season.
Best of luck to these two players as they begin their trial in the Sounders training facility in Tukwila, Washington.
