The current main focus of the newly-launched Trinidad and Tobago Futsal Association is the selection of a training squad of players for international qualifiers for the 2016 Futsal World Cup, to be played in Colombia.

That was the word coming from Futsal Association president Jeffrey Edwards, when the new body was introduced to the public at a media conference on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. The Futsal Association was officially launched on February 2, when the body was incorporated under the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association’s  umbrella.

Edwards said the goal of the Futsal Association was “changing the nation five players at a time” and giving opportunities to players who might never be able to make a conventional Trinidad and Tobago national team to become national players in the five-a-side version of football.

Further, Edwards called on prospective national futsal hopefuls to contact his Association at futsalgmailtt.com or at 769-4439.

“The month of May has been dedicated to futsal, whereby we will be having national selection games through all our indoor facilities in Trinidad and Tobago, from the South East and South West in Point Fortin, to Mayaro, to the Eastern Regional Complex in Tacariga, to the Woodbrook Youth Facility,” Edwards said.

The  president further added that in coming months, the Futsal Association will conduct tournaments, pick national teams, and hold courses to benefit futsal players and officials.

“We want to be able to use this variant of the sport (football) to change the nation,” Edwards said, while adding that his Association was hopeful of working with all stakeholders for the development of the sport.
