Men’s National Futsal team head coach Constantine Konstin continues to put his squad of players through their paces at the International School of Port of Spain indoor court as this country prepares for the CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Guatemala in May.

Konstin’s men are coming off a series of warm-up games against local-based opposition including a team of Venezuelan players which saw T&T lost the opener 1-0 and rebounded with a 3-1 victory. T&T also drew 5-5 with Defence Force while coming away with an 11-1 win over a Select Team of former T&T National Futsal players.

“These games were good indicators for us as I got a chance to see the players in game situations against a well oiled Venezuelan team and a ver physical and competitive Defence Force team,” Konstin said.

“The first set of games were challenging but everything came together by the time we got to the last game which we we won 11-1. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be focusing on getting sharper technically and tactically before entering another slate of friendly games.

“I’d also also like to extend gratitude to Futsal Association President Geoffrey Edwards who helped in a big way to set up 361 which is a sports science team that is working with us to track the fitness levels of our players and their execution. We also have Alexandria Olton, a sports psychologist who is working closely with our team at the moment.” Konstin noted.

The 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship will take place in Guatemala City, Guatemala, from May 3-9, 2021. T&T plays Guadeloupe in its Group A opener on May 3, Martinique on May 4th and hosts Guatemala on May 5th. The top two teams in the four groups will advance to the quarter finals.

The World Cup qualifying tournament will be played at the Domo Polideportivo and Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium. Both venues have a long history of hosting top level international Futsal competitions, including the 2000 FIFA Futsal World Cup. The FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 takes place September 12 – October 6, 2021. The four semi-finalists in the Concacaf championship will qualify for the World Cup.
