TRINIDAD AND Tobago and Haiti set up a meeting in the final of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Futsal tournament when they recorded comfortable wins on Saturday to end as the respective group winners.
Playing at the Canada Hall in the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence in Tunapuna, Haiti blew away St Maarten 19-1 to end Group “B” with a maximum six points.
And TT got goals from seven players to shoot down high flying Suriname 7-3 in Group “A” to also end with maximum six points.
The Haitians went into the match needing only a point in its clash with St Maarten and had delivered in a big way by the end of the 40-minute contest.
Eliacin Rigarden had another field day as he netted five goals with items in the fifth, 17th, 20th, 21st and 23rd minutes while Eduard Voltaire added a beaver-trick with his goals coming in the seventh, 22nd, 38th and 38th.
TT began their match with Suriname needing nothing less than a win to top the group after beating Puerto Rico 7-0 in their opener and the locals proved too much for their Dutch-speaking opponents.
The match appeared competitive early on when Gino Brandon’s ninth minute strike answered early goals from Colin Joseph (sixth) and Anthony Small (seventh), that had given TT a 2-0 lead.
But Brent Antoine (11th), Wendell Douglas (12th) and Clint Ramond (17th) reeled off goals to put the hosts in charge, as the locals posted a 5-1 lead and never looked back.
In the first match on Sunday, Guyana and Suriname were due to meet in the third placed match at 4 pm, with the final kicking off two hours later.
