FC SouthEnd registered a 2-1 win over Police FC on Friday afternoon at the Marvin Lee Stadium booking its place in the 2010 First Citizens Cup preliminary round September 18.

It surely wasn’t the sort of welcome new Police head coach Kelvin Jones wished of as his charges conceded on both sides of the half in Friday’s playoff for the 10th team in this year’s First Citizens Cup.
SouthEnd was inches wide of opening the scoresheet in the 14th minute when Troy Moses failed to direct Dexter Alleyne's cross on target.

However three minutes later Kenrick-Amare Ettienne put the Southerners ahead 1-0 when he fired a low shot to beat goalkeeper Emmanuel Nurse after a well-timed run to meet Eddison Smart's pass above the area.

That advantage disappeared in the 22nd minute when Police FC newest addition Noel Williams leveled the scores 1-1.

The now former San Juan Jabloteh utility player starting up front for the Lawmen latched on to a pass just above the area before taking a couple touches into the area and unleashing a low left-footed shot past Aquelius Sylvester.

SouthEnd’s Smart then failed to put his side back with the advantage in the 26th minute when Ettienne returned the favour feeding his teammate inside the area, however the midfielder’s shot was blocked out by goalkeeper Nurse.

Nurse made another block-out in the 32nd minute denying Troy Moses and in the final minute of the half he thwarted a decent effort by Ettienne to preserve the 1-1 score at the break.

However despite the efforts by Police in the second period led by Williams up front, SouthEnd’s Kelvin Modeste poked in the winner for a 2-1 score ten minutes from time.

A ricocheted effort by SouthEnd defeated Nurse when it rolled onto the toe of Modeste and into the left corner to seal the southerners spot as the tenth team in the preliminary round.

The match-ups for the preliminary round will be revealed at the launch of the 2010 edition on Wednesday 15 September.
