Teenaged W Connection midfielder Zaine Pierre has completed a major move to Serie A club, Genoa officially signing a four year deal this week.
The 18 year old St. Lucian has spent the last six months with the Italian club following stints with English clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, Manchester City, Liverpool and Stoke City.
According to a press release by Connection, all English clubs expressed interest in his ability however work permit restrictions prevented any move.
The release further stated that Genoa then stepped in and secured the player’s signature, however Connection preferred not to disclose the transfer fee involved.
“This signing has sparked a lot of interest in other young players at W Connection by other major Italian Clubs, and will no doubt pave the way for future signings,” said the Digicel Pro League Champions.
“This move has again reinforced the strength and potential of W Connection’s youth system and programme. The Club remains committed to the development of young talented players from Trinidad and Tobago as well as the wider Caribbean.”
Pierre joined W Connection Football Club youth academy at the age of 16 years and was immediately promoted to the Senior Team as one of the talents spotted by head coach and fellow countryman Stuart Charles Fevrier.
It was also revealed that Pierre through his advisor, Daniel Wilson, has secured a sponsorship contract with Puma.
