Richard Hood has been named head coach of Police FC after the club parted ways with Technical Director Muhammed Isa and head coach Kelvin Jones.
Hood’s supporting staff includes trainer/assistant coach Chris Bailey and Glennon Foncette as goalkeeping coach.
It’s not the first time the trio has combined. In 2010 Hood, Bailey and Foncette worked with the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s U17 World Cup team and in 2011 with the Women’s Olympic team during qualification and at the Pan Am Games in the same year.
Hood, 47, who coached the Police FC team in the 1998 South Football Association (SFA) and had a brief stint as coach in 1999 during the then Professional Football League (PFL), seems ready for his new challenge.
“I’m really looking forward to the season hoping to change around the fortunes of the Police team,” said Hood a former Police player. “I’m hoping that our new approach will bear fruit in terms of the team’s performance.”
Last season Police FC finished sixth on the Digicel Pro League standings, the best ever finish in the four seasons (2007, 2009, 2010-2011, 2011-2012) at the TT Pro League level.
Commenting on the decision by Police FC to change its technical staff, the 63 year old Isa said, “They have a new management and they have the right to make that decision. Probably they don’t see the need for a technical director at this time.”
Meantime Bailey explained that with the limited resources in the Police Sports Club, it was only a wise decision to have a totally in-house technical staff and not the external additions of former Policemen Mohammed and Jones.
