W Connection’s stuttering offensive finally burst into life this afternoon with a 7-0 mauling of T&TEC FC at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
In five previous matches—inclusive of two Cup games—the defending Digicel Pro League champions had managed just three goals. But they made up for that today in some style as attackers Shahdon Winchester and Hashim Arcia both notched doubles while Jerrel Britto, Joevin Jones and Leslie Joel Russell chipped in a goal apiece.
Connection remains one of two unbeaten teams in the Pro League this term. The other is North East Stars although that might be of little consolation for coach Angus Eve who has not tasted victory since an opening game triumph over Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA.
Stars led 2-1 at the half today against St Ann’s Rangers at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar but failed to hold off Rangers who equalised from the penalty spot through Devon Modeste on the hour mark.
Cecil Jeffrey had initially put Rangers ahead in the first half only for Cornell Glen to respond with a double.
Glen and Modeste have four Pro League goals each, which places them alongside the Caledonia AIA pair of Keyon Edwards and Ataullah Guerra for the highest individual scoring tally.
Defence Force attacker Richard Roy, Edwards and Modeste have the joint highest mark in all competitions with six items.
Caledonia AIA and Defence Force remain atop the Pro League standings after this weekend’s action with 10 points each although the Connection team, which has eight, has a game in hand against Central FC.
The Pro League will break next week as the Trinidad and Tobago national senior team participates in Caribbean Cup qualifiers at Bacolet, Tobago against Cuba, Suriname and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
