Digicel T&T Pro League club, Central F.C. will begin its search for future stars on Sunday when it host try outs for their 2014 youth teams at New Settlement Ground, Caroni Road from 9 am.
Players should walk with a red and a white jersey, black shorts, boots and shin pads.
Amongst the Central FC staff who will be selecting the successful players will be managing director and former 2006 World Cup defender, Brent Sancho, coach and former England 1986 World Cup defender, Terry Fenwick, current T&T and Central FC goalkeeper, Jan-Michael Williams, former T&T international and Central FC midfielder, Marvin Oliver and former Central FC, North East Stars and Joe Public defender, Marc Leslie, who is now assistant coach with the Sharks.
The Sharks, who have already tasted glory this season when they won the First Citizens Cup, 2-1 over Defence Force will be looking for boys to place into its Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 teams. “This is an important exercise for the club” said youth development manager, Kevin Jeffrey.
“Last season we unearthed some talented youngsters, some of whom, like 16-year-old Nicholas Dillon, were selected to join our senior squad after he was quickly recognised as a special talent.
“Dillon became a regular in our Reserve team playing alongside our first team players and eventually made his debut for the senior team.” said Jeffrey, a former T&T international striker.
“We then selected him to spend a week on trial with English club, Walsall, when they visited in the summer and this is the kind of exposure to professional football that youngsters can expect when they join Central F.C.”
Some of the youth players also got to meet T&T President, His Excellency Anthony Carmona when he came along to watch one of the Under-13 matches. On Saturday last, Central FC also paid tribute to T&T’s war veterans when they presented a jersey to Tim Lambkin of the T&T Armed Forces Veterans Association. Lambkin is a former soldier and national footballer.
