T&T Pro League Chief Executive Officer Dexter Skeene attended Soccerex Americas Forum 2014 in Barbados recently where he held discussions with US Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber among other leaders in the football industry. The forum was geared towards “Supporting the Growth of Football in the Americas.”
The conference programme included important topics and issues relevant to the TT Pro League such as sponsorship, fan engagement and international expansion. It also explored the formation of a Caribbean Premier League.
A former T&T international midfielder, Skeene stated that “Soccerex provided the forum to discuss and share ideas with senior football executives who have had similar experiences. They dealt with the challenges behind the running of a football club and league” and also they were able to reveal the key strategies necessary to making their football business successful.
“The contacts and insights gained at the forum will go a long way to contribute towards the League gaining opportunities and forming strategic partnerships with international sporting organisations and clubs”, said Skeene.
The distinguished guest list at the forum also included Former Chelsea and Netherlands international Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Jeffrey Webb, President of Concacaf, and Osvaldo Ardiles former Argentine midfielder and World Cup medal winner. Other topics on the programme included League Creation & Expansion, Player Development & Retention, Sport Tourism, Attracting and Hosting Major Events and the Business of Sport.
