Police FC ended the Digicel Pro League (DPL) championship with a 3-0 win over Point Fortin Civic on Tuesday night at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
The match also brought to a close the 2014-2015 edition of the Pro League and ensured that North East Stars ended in fourth spot.
Police’s win denied Civic the point which would have taken them past the “Grande Stars” on goal-difference. Civic and Stars both ended last season on 42 points, with Civic having the better goal difference. This time, Stars (34 points), ended a point clear of the deep South team.
Civic won the two previous meetings against Police 2-0 and 3-1 this season, but were no match for the Lawmen on Tuesday. Police got goals from Christon Thomas (37th minute), Makesi Lewis (44th) and Todd Ryan (58th) from the penalty spot.
Still, Civic had early chances to take the lead through midfielder Kelvin Modeste and Andre Toussaint, before Christon Thomas shot the Police ahead 1-0 in the 37th minute, when defensive lapse allowed Shaquille Nesbitt’s low cross to reach Thomas, who made no mistake in putting his strike out of the goalkeeper’s reach for a 1-0 lead.
Lewis added a second in the 44th minute, drilling a right footer past Phillip from the right of the penalty area. And after leading 2-0 at half time, Todd Ryan converted his spot kick in the 58th minute. Referee Rodphin Harris awarded a penalty when defender Rondell Paul handled the ball.
