Club Sando are hoping for the much needed boost, midway through their debut Pro League season, after signing four Grenada internationals.
Cousins Shanon and Moron Phillip, who last represented Hurricane Sports Club in the Grenada national league, and Belfou of Paradise FC and Rickson Phillip of Mt. Rich all did enough to impress the visiting Isa and Streete.
Sando also added 20-year-old United States-born forward Bradley Nestor who made his debut in a 1-0 win over Morvant Caledonia United on January 30.
“Clubs will have to pay attention to us now,” warned Streete who led Sando to the Super League title prior to the club’s entry into the Pro League. “It’s competitive in our squad right now and it wasn’t that way before.”
Sando are currently seventh on the 10-team Digicel Pro League standings with just 17 points after 15 games and will return to play on Friday 12 February against sixth-placed Police FC (21 points) from 6 p.m. at the Ato Boldon Stadium following the Carnival break.
“We hand-picked the Grenadian players and I can say it’s a little more competitive for picks,” said Streete, whose side executed a shake-up within the past two months by parting ways with forwards Teba Mc Knight and Kerron Mitchell, goalkeeper Deron Millard and midfielders Shane Hospidales, Jeromie Williams, and Keith Williams, the brother of Trinidad and Tobago and Central FC goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams. While 29-year-old defender Devon Drayton made good on his promise to exit at the end of his contract in December.
“We needed to look for new players in each position because we lacked venom and urgency in the team,” concluded Streete.
