National and Vibe CT 105 W Connection goal keeper Jan Michael Williams the 2006 TT Pro League Player of the Year admitted it was one of his goals on his 2006 agenda to win the celebrated player award at the end of the season.
“I like to consider myself a perfectionist,” said the 2006 Player of the Year, “I remember at the beginning of the 2006 season, one of my goals was to win the Player of the Year award, but actually I was still quite surprised when I first heard the news.”
Williams was in Costa Rica representing the national team, when it was revealed he was the Pro League’s 2006 Player of the Year.
He told ttproleague.com, “When I first heard about it while with the national team, it was a great feeling, and it is even greater to win this Award at the age of 22. To be quite honest it’s a major achievement for me as a player to be amidst the likes of Arnold Dwarika, Reynold Carrington, Gefferson Goulart all former Players of the Year,” said the emotional W Connection custodian who returned home on Monday night after representing Trinidad and Tobago in a couple of friendly internationals in Central America.
Jan Michael Williams helped the ‘Savonetta Boys’ qualify for the Courts Pro Bowl and the First Citizens Cup, and the Boys from Couva went on to be crowned First Citizens Cup Champions.
W Connection also finished second in the Pro League competition in 2006. He also played a major role in W Connection’s successful Caribbean Club Championship and would no doubt play a critical role as his team gets ready for action in the CONCACAF Club Championship later this month.
Jan Michael Williams believes his strong commitment to the game contributed a lot in his achievement saying, “I believe my personal attitude to the sport contributed to my consistent performance during the 2006 season and this contributed me achieving this major achievement.”
“As far as I understand I am the only goalkeeper to win this award and it feels really good personally to be able to accomplish that at the age of 22,” said the W Connection goalie.
Williams is now committed to higher levels and isn’t settled on what he has achieved so far as a player, “One of my feelings on hearing the news, while I was in Costa Rica with the national team apart from being really happy, it made me aware that I have to keep pushing as a player to do even better and to attain more success at a higher level,” ended the 2006 Pro League Player of the Year.
