Kevon Woodley is getting accustomed to equalizing moments this week following his team’s 1-1 draw against W Connection on Tuesday and now to score in a 1-1 finish against North East Stars on Thursday night at the Larry Gomes Stadium giving United Petrotrin a great chance of advancing into the Lucozade Sport Big Six.
Meantime North East Stars dropped one spot into fifth with 39 points.
Woodley struck the equalizer four mintues from the break levelling a 37th minute strike from Stars captain Anthony Wolfe.
The opening 30 minutes had little the be left impressed with United Petrotrin forced to make an early change replacing injured Simeon Augustus with Devon Caseman in the 20th minute and overbar efforts from distance by teammates Kennedy Hinkson and Keon Daniel.
But in the 37th minute after a 22minutes electricity interruption Anthony Wolfe pounced netting the opening item after controlling a Leslie Fitzpatrick cross to shoot past goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel at far post for a 1-0 lead.
Fitzpatrick starting his first match on loan with the Stars surely delighted to have an assist.
The Stars failed a minute later to bag a second when John Stewart’s run down the right managed a cross through two defenders however to low ball inside the Petrotrin area was behind two supporting North East Stars players.
And in the 41st minute Kevon Woodley put the match back on level terms 1-1 heading past Andrew Durrant from a Keon Daniel freekick.
Two minutes into the second half North East Stars was just short of an item when Linsie Sherwood left defender Akeem Parris for dead and whipped in a cross which had to be cleared to safety by Makan Hislop ahead of onrushing Sean Cooper.
The second half had little to be left desired as a draw was on the card.
North East Stars came closest to what could have been an item in the 77th minute when Marlon Stoute’s freekick was headed in on goal by defender Brent Sancho by blocked out by goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel and the follow up by substitute Randolph Jerome only managed to guide the ball onto the upright under Samuel’s second challenge before gathering the ball.
Petrotrin’s freekick specialist Keon Daniel failed to create a magic moment six minutes from time hitting a 24 yard freekick over bar.
At the final whistle the scores remained 1-1 with both teams sharing the points with one match remaining in the Third Round.
On Saturday Petrotrin host St Ann’s Rangers at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground from 4pm and North East Stars take on eith positioned Defence Force from 4pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
