Caledonia AIA World Cup midfielder Densill Theobald says that sacrifices paid off in his team’s 2008 FA Trophy title victory on Wednesday night against favourites and three-time champions W Connection.
Walter Moore and Conrad Smith equalized on two occasions to keep the Stallions alive before Jameel Perry sealed the victory in extra time.
Theobald said that it was proof of good character and mental strength in his team that allowed their match winning performance.
“It was all team work. I know the fans came out tonight. But people don’t know that sacrifices we had to make as a team,” said the Caledonia midfielder.
“They don’t know the lack of resources at Caledonia. They don’t know much. They don’t the negatives and only see the positives,” he added.
However Theobald looks towards an even better season in 2009 saying, “We are trying to put all that behind us now and look towards the (League) championship for the community of Morvant.”
Caledonia won the Courts Pro Bowl and the FA Trophy titles this season making it their most fruitful season in their club’s history.
He applauded defeated W Connection for their fight in Wednesday’s FA final.
“It was a hard worked victory. Hats off to W Connection they really brought out the best in us.”
Theobald a former regular with the Trinidad and Tobago national senior team added that his main focus is winning the League Championship with Caledonia.
Caledonia AIA finished fourth in the League Championship this season, the same positioned finished in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and now the Stallions are looking to improve that position in 2009.
“We have a good family here. We bring out the best in each other and just want to push on from here,” explained Theobald.
“It shows that if we had the resources like the Jabloteh and Joe Public we could achieve much more. Our success is a positive for our community. What we did was put all our negatives behind us and focused on coming out and giving it our best.”
