CLICO San Juan Jabloteh captain Trent Noel is confident of driving away with the 2008 Toyota Player of the Year award of a Daihatsu Sirion.
Noel, two-time Jabloteh MVP are tipped as one of the top favourites to win the prestigious award and are currently running strong with names such as Kevin Jeffrey (North East Stars), Devon Jorlsing (Defence Force), Densil Theobald, Hayden Tinto (Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA), Joseph Peters, Josimar Belgrave (St Ann’s Rangers), Andre Toussaint, Johnathon Frias (W Connection) and Keon Daniel (United Petrotrin).
“To be a nominee, chosen amongst so many players in the League, I already consider myself a winner,” said the Jabloteh standout. “To actually win the prize will be an extra bonus but just to be nominated is satisfying.”
Noel helped the San Juan based club to three titles this season. The League Championship which they have won back to back, the Lucozade Sport Big Six and most recently the Toyota Classic.
Noel, who have been overlooked by the Trinidad and Tobago national team selectors this year, registered the opening item against Rangers in Friday’s Toyota Classic final with a beautiful free kick—one of his many goals this season, 10 of which came in the League Championship.
“It was a nice game,” said the Jabloteh veteran. “I scored a nice goal and basically I can say that we gave the crowd what they wanted.”
Noel believes that his club’s success of three titles in 2008, one of which is the League Championship, are deserving rewards for the hard work and commitment Jabloteh installed.
“It was a great season. We worked hard for it and as captain I am proud my teammates.”
He believes that staying focused and keeping all eyes on the prize was the toughest task.
“Staying focus was the task this season because we were holding the league from the start and to hold it to the finish was very hard work. It took a lot of mental preparation, a lot of sacrifice and in the end it paid off,” concluded the Jabloteh captain.
