Ma Pau SC have made a bold statement in their ambitions this season pairing off two of Trinidad and Tobago’s young and talented coaches.
Trinidad and Tobago youth assistant coach Michael McComie and Angus Eve both former T&T internationals were officially announced on Wednesday at a press launch at Sweet Lime Restaurant on Aripita Avenue, Port Of Spain as head coach and assistant coach respectively of Ma Pau SC.
Ma Pau pointed out Mc Comie’s achievement as a player and coach as the reasons of enticement to acquire his services.
Mc Comie won the FA in 2002 as a player then as coach of Joe Public in 2007. Prior to that, he won consecutive Super League Championships in 2004 and 2005 with Public. In 2006 he followed-up with the Pro League Championship and the Coach of the Year title. Mc Comie’s achievement went further landing a youth assistant coach for the TTFF in 2007. In the same year he returned to Joe Public to finish off the season in third and with the Toyota Classic and FA titles.
Former Jabloteh assistant coach and T&T most capped player Angus Eve will work alongside Mc Comie, sometimes referred to as the special one.
With Mc Comie, Eve and new team manager Brian Bain, Ma Pau hopes to achieve success after finishing in a disappointing ninth position in their debut season in 2008 under coach Ron La Forest.
Ma Pau’s interest in Mc Comie came following a parting with Brazilian Ubirajara Veiga Da Silva who was hired and released during the pre-season.
Mc Comie explained that he was granted leave from his National portfolio to pick up the 3 year offer from Ma Pau—which he describes as a challenge.
“This is the type of challenge that one wants to accept. This is a perfect example to execute and show what I have learned over the years. I am an ambitious person and I believe this is the best time to take up an offer like this,” said the former player and coach of Joe Public.
Mc Comie is already bursting with confidence ahead of the season adding, “Ma Pau is a ‘baby’ club against the clubs who have years of experience. But I promise that Ma Pau will be more competitive than before. Pressure will be put onto the players to achieve on and off the pitch.”
“We aim to have the best possible players. We will bring positive additions to not only to Ma Pau but the Pro League as well,” continued Mc Comie.
Lyndon Andrews, a former player under Mc Comie at Joe Public, T&T World Cup member Anthony Wolfe, St Vincent international Shandell Samuel and former North East Stars midfielder Marc Leslie are some of the experienced players in the Ma Pau line-up this season.
“Anything is possible,” added the new Ma Pau coach. “We have a thin squad but what we have is a squad with hunger.”
Mc Comie commenting on the partnering between himself and Angus Eve saying, “Eve and I share the same chemistry and ideas. Eve is very ambitious, like me, and that’s the people I want around me.”
