Former Clico San Juan Jabloteh captain Trent Noel was voted the 2008 T&T Pro League Player-of-the-Year in a scaled down awards function at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya on Friday night. Jabloteh also walked away with the Team of the Year accolade while its former coach Terry Fenwick was the recipient of the Coach of the Year honours.
Commenting on his own achievement, Fenwick said, “I’m delighted for myself and for the club. I believe it speaks volumes for all the hard work that takes place behind the scenes and is just reward for the good development programme at the club.” Fenwick, a former England international and coach of Crystal Palace, Northampton and Portsmouth added, “Jabloteh has consistently been one of the best teams in the country and the wider Caribbean.
“We have done so with a young team and our efforts for the players is far beyond being at Jabloteh, but to see them further their development overseas at top clubs. With regards to former club captain Noel, who is now with United Petrotrin, Fenwick said he believes the award was long overdue but very deserving. “Trent has been a magnificent player for the club over a number of years and has been very consistent in the Pro League.
“I feel this award should have been given to him last year, but he truly deserves it for his performances for the club on and off the field of play.” Jabloteh’s deputy chairman Wilfred Espinet added that although the club was facing some difficult problems, they were still bent on leading the way in the Pro League on all fronts. Noel, 32, was presented with a brand new $125,000 Daihatsu Sirion motor car from sponsors Toyota T&T Ltd for the achievement.
