ANN MARIE Williams, mother of murdered young aspiring footballer of the San Juan Jabloteh football club, Dennis Williams, sat yesterday at her El Soccorro Extension home staring at his many trophies and medals that he had won over the years. Two of his favourite football boots were placed on his bed, along with his uniform, which he wore as a reserve player on the team.

“Every Mother’s Day he would get up and wish me happy Mother’s Day and would make sure that he stays the entire day home with me,” Williams said, as she reminisced on past Mother’s Day celebrations she had with her first son of six children. Dennis was sitting on a culvert at about 2.30 pm on Friday when he was approached by a lone gunman who shot him four times about the body.

Police investigators claimed that Dennis had an argument with a group of men from the area and believe that the incident may have stemmed from that. However, Williams denied that her son was involved in any argument.

She claimed that her son was killed over jealousy. “He was doing really good especially in football which was his passion and which he really focussed hard on and worked at.

Just before he was shot he was threatened by a guy who told him that he (Dennis) felt that he was better than everybody and that he will do for him. So that is why I believe he was killed because he was the envy of many,” she said.

Williams claimed that there was an argument over a gun but said that it did not involve Dennis but a close neighbour and childhood friend of his.

Speaking with Newsday yesterday CEO of the Football Club, Azard Khan described Williams as someone who always did his best to stay out of trouble,

“He was someone who was always trying to stay out of trouble.

He always strived to do good so we are really saddened by what happened to him and remain confused as to why he was killed.”

Khan said that he last played in a game last season and was due to play next week. He said that he last saw Dennis last Thursday at a training session, “I saw him and it was a long time before that since we did not see each other, so when he saw me he asked how I was doing and we chatted a little.

“He then said the prayer and then went on to train.”

Williams has been a member of the Jabloteh Football Club since the age of 13.

He was a team player for the Under 13’s, Under 15’s and Under 17’s team.

He was currently training with the Pro-team and was part of the Reserve Team.

Up to late yesterday police were questioning four suspects in connection with Dennis’ murder.

Officers of the Barataria CID are continuing investigations.
