W Connection head coach Stuart Charles Fevrier has decided on trialist Alusine Bangura, keeping the Republic of Sierra Leone teenager for the rest of the 2009.
The 19 year old Bangura was recommended to the Couva based club by former Connection player Charlie Wright who is now a coach in the Sierra Leone National Premier League.
In 1999—W Connection’s first season as a professional club—Sierra Leone players Charlie Wright and Abdullah Conte was part of coach Fevrier’s setup.
Wright and Conte have since then kept in contact with the club following that season according to Fevrier.
Bangura last played with Sierra Leone National Premier League giants Mighty Blackpool SC of Freetown—Bangura’s hometown. Bangura finished 3rd in the 2007-2008 season.
However Bangura will not immediately fit into Fevrier’s Senior Team plan despite needing dept in their squad for upcoming 2009-2010 CONCACAF Champions’ League Group stage and domestic fixtures.
“We will keep him more or less for development over the rest of the season with the Reserves,” explained Fevrier. “Based on how he goes we will decide on next season.”
Bangura will make his debut on Thursday with the Connection Reserves against FC SouthEnd Reserves from 5pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium.
However Fevrier is not eliminating the fact that Bangura could feature for the W Connection Senior team adding, “All our Reserve players are eligible for Senior. And at any point they could feature for the Seniors. On Sunday (against San Juan Jabloteh) was an example where we used some of our Reserves because we were without some of our Trinidad and Tobago National players. And we will have to use some of them again today(Tuesday) when we face FC SouthEnd in the senior division.”
W Connection drew Sunday’s Round Two Match Day Four rescheduled match against Jabloteh 0-0. Connection will be in action again on Tuesday(today) against FC SouthEnd in a rescheduled Round Two Match Day Three fixture.
