T&T Digicel Pro League club W Connection included Mexican, Jose Carlos Diaz in an 18-man squad which left on Saturday for tomorrow’s Group D Concacaf Champions’ League match against Communicaciones of Guatemala.
The match will be played at the Estadio Cementos Progreso, Guatemala city from 10pm. The 22-year-old Diaz, who was recruited by Charles-Fevrier on the recommendation of his former team-mate in Hungary and national goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, was included in the team as replacement for injured striker Andre Toussaint.
The W Connection squad left on the heels of a shock 3-1 loss to Ma Pau in Friday First Citizens Cup quarterfinal to relinquish its five-year hold on the trophy and will need to shift its focus quickly. When both teams met in the first leg in T&T, Communicaciones came away with a 2-1 win courtesy of an 80th minute Ronaldo Fonseca penalty. The Guatemalans, coming off a 1-0 league defeat at Jalapa on Saturday, also blanked Honduran club Real Espana last Thursday at home in the Champions League via a Fonseca double to improve to six points, one behind leaders Pumas UNAM of Mexico.
