Sean Powers #16Its looks as though Digicel Pro League clubs, champions bmobile Joe Public and Ma Pau are headed for a heated battle over the services of defender Seon Power.

This, after Daryll Warner, Managing Director of Joe Public made it clear that the 26-year-old discarded national defender, who was offered a new deal by the club had not signed for Ma Pau earlier this week.

On Friday it was stated by Ma Pau assistant coach, Angus Eve that Powers and the Clico San Juan Jabloteh duo of Devon Jamerson and Elton John had signed two-year deals with the Woodbrook-based club.

However in response, Warner via e-mail sought to clear the air over the renewal and non-renewal of contracts within the club as it pertains to the upcoming 2010 season and the defence of the Digicel Pro League, Big Six, Toyota Classic, T&T Football Federation FA Cup, and Digicel Pro Bowl titles.

He said: “At the moment, Joe Public has 22 players contracted to participate in the 2010 season, which is inclusive of Seon Power and Jason Springer, as well as our regular starters during the 2009 season, despite futile attempts by a Pro League club to obtain the services of key staff and players associated with Joe Public.

Warner added that Powers remains a contracted player with Joe Public until December 31 next year while Springer has not been released from his contractual obligation to the club which ends on December 31, 2010.

However contacted for comment, Eve said that Powers has already put pen to paper on a deal with Ma Pau and the club had the proof to show it.

“I spoke to him (Powers) yesterday on the phone and he told me that he was told by the club to sign a contract even though he had signed on with us.

“I told him that we were not happy with the situation but at the same time we have the evidence to prove that he is now a Ma Pau player.

We even have photographs signing the deal, ended Eve, assistant coach to Michael Mc Comie. Looking ahead to next year Warner said the club is preparing for the 2010 version of the Caribbean Club Championship with the start of pre-season training on January 15.

“To date, we have signed a few new players in for the 2010 preparations in former W Connection striker, Andre Toussaint who has rejoined his former club, and right-back Nigel Daniel from United Petrotrin.”

Warner added that the club was still in negotiations with a few other players that have the desire to join the record breaking club.
